Microscopes found here are geared towards students, grades 5 through 12 and some undergraduate college. More higher-level university microscopes can be found in the "Biological Microscopes" section of this site.
These are your standard, monocular, compound, 3-objective, WF10X eyepiece w/pointer, stage clips, coarse/fine focus, built-in illuminator microscopes that are used in the vast majority of Jr. High and High School classrooms today. Most models are available in either cordless, rechargeable or the plug-in style.
Microscopes for High School Advanced Placement (A.P.) Biology, Career Centers and some college undergraduate classroom use. These microscopes have an additional fourth objective (100X, oil immersion) and typically are outfitted with a mechanical stage. Several models also have improved substage condensers and some, a binocular head.
Dissecting scopes are often used less frequently than compound microscopes in many classrooms but they offer great flexibility and provide a 3-D specimen view otherwise unattainable. When properly adjusted, users are afforded a 3-dimensional view of their specimen. Dissecting microscopes are good for observing larger items at lower magnifications compared to their compound microscope counterparts; Insects, dissections, coins, flowers, leaves, seeds rocks, fossils, etc.
This forensic, comparison microscope was designed for high school forensics class and is not for professional use. Compare micro and macro "evidence". Using the macro lens, with a larger working distance, you are able to view not only bullets but also larger more bulky, "evidence" items. View images either 100% from the left side microscope, 100% from the right side microscope, side-by-side, or overlapping.
Digital Microscopes have a built-in digital camera. These are very handy when microscopy is done on a more routine basis and ease of setup and use is a top desire.
Digital microscopes have their place but in most cases Dayton Microscope recommends using a discrete setup with a microscope and a separate, attachable camera for use when desired.
