Your microscopes are disassembled enough to gain access to necessary components and frame. They are cleaned and disinfected; lenses are polished. Lubrication is applied where and when needed. Following cleaning the microscopes are operationally tested, checked, focused and adjusted to ensure optimum functionality. If a problem is found during this process, every effort will be made to correct or repair the issue. If a replacement part is required, your authorization/approval will be solicited before any additional cost is added to the final Invoice. ***Please note that quite old or abused microscopes may be in such a condition that common-sense, cost-effective repair is not feasible. Bags are placed over clean microscopes after service has been completed.
Besides having optics, microscopes are electrical and mechanical devices too. Like most other mechanical devices, microscopes need to be inspected, adjusted, lubricated, screws-tightened, etc. A schedule of planned maintenance is the best way to ensure safe, proper operation and to protect your school's significant asset investment.

A microscope's operational life should be counted in decades not just years, if properly maintained.
Nothing is more frustrating for a biology or life science teacher than having a lab full of barely usable microscopes and 27 students trying to complete their assignments on them. Having your microscopes professionally cleaned and serviced is a good idea and it's a whole lot cheaper than new microscopes! With safe, properly operating microscopes, classroom chaos, confusion and frustration are greatly reduced and your class of budding biologists have the tools necessary to gain understanding and appreciation for science and our world.
On a separate note from a management standpoint beyond the prudence of general maintenance, it's good to know where you stand with your microscope "fleet". Once your microscopes have been professionally serviced you will have a working knowledge of the real condition of your scopes and thus allowing you time to budget for future repairs (parts), updates or complete replacements. Keeping your microscopes clean, adjusted and lubricated will prolong their life and they will operate, as designed, whenever you need them. Microscopes should last for decades.
